Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 144 OF 365

Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth (John 9:1 NKJV).

What miracle is not found in the Old Testament?

In the Old Testament, no account exists of someone born blind receiving sight. Yet, with the arrival of Jesus, everything changes! John writes, “He [Jesus] spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. And He said to him, ‘Go, wash in the pool of Siloam’ (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing” (John 9:6–7 NKJV). Perhaps Jesus’ action of spitting on the ground is reminiscent of Adam’s creation from the earth. Additionally, Jesus tests the man’s faith by giving him a task to follow, and as he obeys, he receives his sight.

Have you ever considered the significance of this rare miracle? Practically, this miracle challenges us to trust in Jesus’ methods, even when they seem strange. It also reminds us to be obedient to His commands, knowing that obedience often precedes blessings.

Employment Point: Rely fully upon the One who gives sight to the blind.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
