Love It! 30 Days of Inspiration in Psalm 119Sample

Day 23 Psalm 119:161–168 Those Who Love Your Law Have Great Peace
Modern society longs for peace of mind. It’s interesting the extent in which we go to gain peace. Here are some ways society today tries to gain peace in their lives (many of them temporary or surface-level):
·Self-care routines – bubble baths, spa days, journaling, digital detoxes.
·Mindfulness & meditation – secular approaches often stripped from their spiritual roots, focusing on breathing, visualization, or “emptying the mind.”
·Exercise & wellness culture – yoga, pilates, gym memberships, running, or even extreme fitness regimens.
·Travel & escape – seeking peace through vacations, nature getaways, or “running away” from stress for a time.
·Entertainment distractions – binging shows, scrolling social media, video games, or consuming endless content.
·Material pursuits – shopping, retail therapy, upgrading homes or cars, or curating a “perfect life” image online.
·Substances – alcohol, recreational drugs, or even just coffee and energy drinks to cope or “find calm.”
·Achievement & success – believing peace comes once goals are reached, promotions secured, or financial security achieved.
But as you can see, most of these solutions reach only skin-deep. They soothe for a moment, but they rarely touch the soul. True peace, the kind that steadies us in chaos, only comes from God’s Word (Psalm 119:165).
If we love God and obey His laws, we’ll have “great peace.” Trust in God, who alone stands above the pressure of daily life, gives us full assurance. That’s where the next Hebrew letter, “Shin” in Psalm 119:161-168, points to God’s great peace that can flood our souls.
“Shin” symbolizes the consuming power of God's truth that "devours" falsehoods. There’s "great peace" of Shalom, as well as "divine powers" and joy found in God's Word. The letter also relates to the "sharpness" of divine truth or the act of holding onto truth.
The world chases peace like a mirage, but the psalmist reminds us that great peace belongs to those who love God’s Word. It’s not fragile, not fleeting, but a steady anchor that holds even when storms rage.
Question: Where could God’s peace replace your anxieties, worries, or fears?
Prayer: Lord, fill me with Your peace today and let Your calm quiet my heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
