Love It! 30 Days of Inspiration in Psalm 119Sample

Day 27 Psalm 119 God’s Lamp and Light
One of my favorite verses is Psalm 119:105. According to a Hebrew lexicon, the word “lamp” represents our mind, intellect, wisdom, and knowledge. The word “light” means a direction, instruction, and knowledge received because of understanding God’s Word.
Remember, this psalm shows a deep understanding of God and His character. Pairing the two words “lamp” and “light” together, we find a meaning that is especially helpful: “symbol of holiness, goodness, wisdom, grace, hope, and God’s revelation.”
A lamp gives light in the darkness. The word used for lamp in “lamp to my feet” refers to a foot lamp, which is like a single candle. This kind of lamp doesn’t light up the whole path but is limited in its illumination, showing a pathway step by step. You can take a whole journey with a lamp, but will need to refer to it just like with the Word of God. The Bible is my lamp that shows me and guides me in life.
A light illuminates, but it’s more like a flood light, a wide encompassing light that also gives understanding. God’s Word gives me wisdom and understanding to live by faith. The incredible truth is God’s Word is both a light and a lamp. God's Word is a step-by-step journey to understand His character and a personalized guide we need in every moment of our life.
We have everything we need to see, understand, and to share with others. Plus, we also have instructions on how to conduct our lives for life and godliness. We are also crafted for good works. It’s amazing to know that God has tasked us with the responsibility to share with others and to take action on what His Word says to do. He has generously given it all to us!
We can walk confidently today because His Word never fails and never leads us astray. His Word lights our path and illuminates His truth. If the psalmist were to make a vision board, God’s Word would be found on it.
Question: Where do you need God’s light most right now? How have you seen His Word be the very encouragement you need in your daily life?
Prayer: God, guide me by the truth of Your Word. Please light my way and give me the grace to obey. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
