Love It! 30 Days of Inspiration in Psalm 119

DAY 22 OF 30

Day 22 Psalm 119:153–160 From Your Head to Your Heart

Our next letter and section are titled by the Hebrew word “Resh.” It symbolizes "head," "leader," or "beginning.” This word is closely related to another Hebrew word, “rosh”. The verses in this section emphasize the writer’s awareness of his own need for wisdom. He also recognizes God's Word authority and sovereignty.

This humility places him in a position leading to greatness. The letter's form also resembles a bent figure, is sometimes interpreted to represent a man in poverty or need, looking for assistance, which aligns with the psalmist's plea for God's intervention.

The journey of faith involves God’s Word traveling from your head to your heart. By spiritual transformation, a person accepts Jesus as Savior and then positions a new believer to receive forgiveness and grace. As we acknowledge our spiritual needs, the Holy Spirit helps us confess our sins and receive salvation. Therefore, the truth of God’s love changes from a head knowledge to a heart knowledge.

Logic is a hindrance to faith, and the psalmist seeks to prioritize God's truth over his own understanding. That’s a problem for most of us. We want to control our own destiny. We want to do things our way. We want to depend on ourselves to make a go of life. But that’s not God’s way.

Too often, our heads get in the way of our faith. We lean on our own reasoning instead of trusting the Lord with all our hearts. Many even use their God-given reasoning and try to disprove God! Instead, our intellect was given to us to enable us to appreciate and worship our Creator.

As a long-time believer, the wisest and best decision we will ever make is accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior of our lives. Left to myself, I would have followed a path of destruction, chaos, and confusion. The psalmist cries out for mercy, seeking to prioritize heart knowledge over head knowledge. God’s mercy trumps every lie, and His unfailing love not only rescues but refreshes our faith so it can overflow, blessing us abundantly.

Question: What area of your life needs God’s reviving breath?

Prayer: Lord, revive my soul and lead me by Your truth, righteousness, and holiness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
