TODAY’S STORY

A Goodbye Meal from Matthew 26:14-16; John 13:26-30; Mark 14:12-26

Note to the parents:

In this story, some of Jesus’ words may confuse or scare young children, while other children will just accept them. Don’t be afraid to let the story speak for itself. You don’t need to explain everything. Trust that God will continue to help your child learn.

Help your child recall the story by asking simple questions about what happened.

Examples:

• Did the religious leaders like Jesus?
• What did they give Judas, one of Jesus’ friends, to help them?
• What did Jesus say about the bread and the wine He was serving to the disciples?

Together, think about what you have learned. Invite your child to ask you the question. Encourage them to add their thoughts or fill in a blank when prompted.

What did we learn about GOD?

• God showed Jesus what would happen to Him ahead of time so that Jesus could live out God’s plan to save us.

What did we learn about JESUS?

• Jesus loves people.
• He loves those who are hurt, sad, and lonely.
• He loved each of His followers, even Judas.
• And He loves you.

What did we learn about PEOPLE?

• People need the love that Jesus has for us.
• His disciples came close to Him by sharing a meal together.
• We can choose to come close to Jesus too!

What do you want to say to God after reading this story? (Prayer)

God,

Thank You for the great love that Jesus shows me.

I want to come close to You and know Your love.

Amen.

Build anticipation for tomorrow:

I like being close to you and learning about Jesus together. Let’s do it again tomorrow and see what happens in the garden that they walked to.
