The King and the Kingdom from Matthew 4:23-7:29; John 18:36-37

Note to the parents:

Don’t feel like you have to overexplain. Understanding everything all at once isn’t possible. But showing up to love and learn about God is—and you and your child are doing just that.

Help your child recall the story by asking simple questions about what happened.

Examples:

• Who is the King of this Kingdom that Jesus taught about?
• What happened to the house built on sand? What about the one built on rock?
• Which one are you like if you put Jesus’ words into action?

Together, think about what you have learned. Invite your child to ask you the question.
Encourage them to add their thoughts or fill in a blank when prompted.

What did we learn about GOD?

• God wants us to love Him and live His way. If you do, He gives you everything you need.
• God wants you to talk to Him as your good heavenly Father when you pray.

What did we learn about JESUS?

• Jesus and His Words are like a strong rock that doesn’t fall apart.

What did we learn about PEOPLE?

• People who trust God and put His words into action have good hearts because their hearts are like God’s heart.
• Their lives are sturdy, built on the rock.
• People who do not trust and obey have lives that crumble like sand.

What do you want to say to God after reading this story? (Prayer)

Let's pray together.

God,

Thank You that I can call You my Father – my Daddy.

Help my heart to be like Your heart.

(Name some ways you want your heart to be like God’s heart.)

I want my life to be built on the rock, not on sand.
