When It Is Difficult to Forgive

DAY 7 OF 7

Day 7: Forgiveness is about you

Holding on to resentment is like ‘drinking poison and then hoping it will kill your enemies’. When we forgive, it is not for the benefit of the other person. It is ultimately for our own benefit. I have seen people healed of ongoing illnesses simply by choosing to forgive! When we let go of the past, we step into the freedom and newness that God has for us. A burden is lifted and a yoke is broken. We ‘release’ the other person into God’s hands and His ways for their lives.

Testimony:
Karen had suffered from chronic migraines for over ten years. Doctors tried every treatment, but nothing worked long-term. As a committed believer, she prayed for healing, but the pain persisted. One day, during a women’s retreat, a speaker shared a message on the power of forgiveness. Karen realized she was still harboring deep resentment toward her father, who had abandoned their family when she was a child.

With trembling hands and a racing heart, she prayed: “Lord, I choose to forgive my father. I release him to You. I let go of the pain and the bitterness.” It wasn’t emotional, it was simply a decision.

That night, for the first time in years, Karen slept without pain. Weeks went by without a single migraine. A medical miracle? Perhaps. But Karen knew: the real miracle was the freedom that came when she released her father into God’s hands. Her healing followed her forgiveness.

Prayer:
Father, thank You for the freedom that comes through forgiveness. I release the past and embrace the new work You are doing in me. Fill me with Your peace and joy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About this Plan

When It Is Difficult to Forgive

Do you know you have to forgive, but really struggle to do so? Forgiveness is one of the hardest things God calls us to do. When someone wounds us deeply, everything in us resists letting go. This 7-day journey will walk you through the struggles of forgiveness, the healing power of God’s Word, and the freedom that comes when we surrender our pain to Him.
