When It Is Difficult to ForgiveSample

When It Is Difficult to Forgive

DAY 1 OF 7

Day 1: Why is forgiveness necessary

Forgiveness is not optional for believers—it is a command. Holding on to unforgiveness blocks our relationship with God and keeps us bound in bitterness. It can be really difficult to even consider the idea of forgiving someone when they have caused you rejection, dishonor, or deep pain. Not one person is excluded from experiencing hurts or pains. It often hurts us most when it is caused by someone really close to us. Do you want the pain to stop? It is absolutely possible! But it will cost a lot of courage to arise from your embattled heart. If you say 'yes' to ‘letting go’, your healing is literally upon you!

Testimony:
Sarah struggled for years with resentment toward a friend who betrayed her trust. She realized that forgiving didn’t mean excusing the wrongdoing, but rather releasing herself from the burden of anger. It wasn’t until she surrendered her hurt to God that she felt true freedom.

Ask the Holy Spirit to show you from His perspective what He sees concerning the matter paining your heart today. Spend a few moments reflecting and then allow Him to help you pray.

Pray:

Father, I choose to forgive _________ (mention their name(s)) for what they have done. I choose to bless them, even while I am not ‘feeling’ it yet. Let Your will be done and Your kingdom come in their lives, and also in mine. In Jesus name, Amen.

About this Plan

When It Is Difficult to Forgive

Do you know you have to forgive, but really struggle to do so? Forgiveness is one of the hardest things God calls us to do. When someone wounds us deeply, everything in us resists letting go. This 7-day journey will walk you through the struggles of forgiveness, the healing power of God’s Word, and the freedom that comes when we surrender our pain to Him.
