What Is "The Way of Christ?"

DAY 5 OF 7

The Way of Obedience

In a world that equates manhood with dominance, control, or status, Jesus flips the script:

The true measure of a man is obedience.

Think of Jesus’ earthly father, Joseph.

Not a man of many words in Scripture, but a man of decisive action. When the angel told him to marry Mary despite the social shame of her being unwed and pregnant, he obeyed (Matthew 1:18-24). When told to flee to Egypt to protect his family, he packed up immediately (Matthew 2:13-15). When God said it was time to return to Israel, he went without question (Matthew 2:19-21).

No fanfare. Just grit and godliness.

The strongest muscle a man can build is obedience. It means submitting to a higher command, even when it's uncomfortable, inconvenient, or unclear.

And let’s be honest: most men don’t naturally like to take orders. But Jesus is calling for strong, decisive men to act on His words, like the man who builds his house on the rock (Matthew 7:24-27).

Obedience doesn’t always feel heroic. Sometimes it’s showing up when you’d rather sleep in. Sometimes it’s choosing not to click that link. Sometimes it’s apologizing to your coworker.

But we are men who follow in the footsteps of the One who obeyed His Father perfectly (John 14:31), even when it was impossibly difficult, and who calls men to do the same.

This is The Way.

Prayer: Lord, help me be a man who obeys not just in belief, but in action. Strengthen my will to follow through even when it's tough. Let my life reflect trust, not just talk. Amen.

Reflection: Where is God calling you to obey right now? Have you been hesitating to do so in any area? Identify one such area today and take a step of concrete action in the right direction—because obedience is built with boots on the ground.

About this Plan

What Is "The Way of Christ?"

Men are called to "follow" after Jesus. But what exactly does that mean? How does a guy do it, and how does he even know what to do? The Way of Christ is the calling, and we will take this week to explore this Way. Written by Steven Sukkau.
