What Is "The Way of Christ?"

DAY 3 OF 7

The Way of Stillness

King David was a warrior. He knew how to use a sword, command troops, and win battles.

But he also knew when to sheath the sword and wait on God.

Likewise, Psalm 46 reminds us that sometimes the bravest thing a man can do is simply stop striving.

The world tells men to hustle harder, try to fix everything, and stay in control. But The Way of Christ invites us into countercultural stillness.

This doesn’t mean weakness or passivity. Stillness is intentional restraint. It's choosing faith over frantic activity. It’s a soldier at attention, awaiting his orders before rushing into the fray.

Like most men, I’m guessing you don’t naturally sit still. We want to solve the problem, move the mission forward, and generally make things happen.

But there are battles God never asked us to fight, and there are moments when strength looks more like trust rooted in the quiet, immovable confidence that God is who He says He is, and if someone needs to be in control, it should be Him.

Jesus never rushed into anything, waiting for God’s perfect timing before He did what He was called to (Luke 9:51). His whole life had been pointing to the Cross, but He did not “make” it happen; instead, He chose to wait for the right moment to trust His Father and act.

This is The Way.

Prayer: Father, help me to stop striving in my own strength. When everything in me wants to act, remind me to pause and listen. Give me the discipline to wait, the humility to trust, and the courage to let You lead. Amen.

Reflection: Today, choose one area of your life where you’ve been striving to stay in control. What would it look like to surrender that to God in stillness?

About this Plan

What Is "The Way of Christ?"

Men are called to "follow" after Jesus. But what exactly does that mean? How does a guy do it, and how does he even know what to do? The Way of Christ is the calling, and we will take this week to explore this Way. Written by Steven Sukkau.
