God Says I Am: Embracing Peace & Walking in Power

DAY 4 OF 12

God says I am … secure.

Do you ever look back and feel like you were a completely different person? Growing and changing is a vital part of life. If you stayed exactly the same, there wouldn’t be any growth.

Think about a tree or a flower. As they mature, they grow taller, widen, bud, and blossom into something new. A sapling can’t bear fruit; it’s not strong enough yet. In the same way, a young plant can’t support the weight of a flower until it’s ready.

Growth, learning, and developing are all good things. You’re constantly working on areas of your life that need adjustments—making mistakes, learning from them, and slowly shaping into a more faithful Christ-follower. But even as you grow, your true identity doesn’t change.

The way we express ourselves—through our thoughts, emotions, and reactions—might shift over time. Maybe you’ve learned to respond to conflict with curiosity instead of anger. Or maybe you forgive more quickly than you used to. Those are signs of maturity.

But your identity in Christ? That stays the same. It is stable and secure.

Why? Because your identity is rooted in Him—and He doesn’t change.

Yes, God wants you to grow. Scripture often talks about maturing in faith, ripening on the vine, preparing for harvest. But God also wants you to rest in the truth: Your identity as a child of God is unchanging.

Ephesians 1:13 (NIV) says it this way: “When you believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit ...” (emphasis added). God chose you, and that means you are eternally His and that you have the Holy Spirit to walk alongside you for all your days!

God claimed you as His own, and that’s something that will never be changed or reversed!

Dear Lord,

I am so grateful that my identity in You is unchanging. Remind me that I am secure in You when I forget. From that security, I know that You also call me to grow—show me the ways I can grow in my understanding of who You are … and in the ways I act and treat others. Help me act and react from a place of security, not from a place of instability and confusion.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
