RETURN to ME: Reading With the People of God #16Sample

RETURN to ME: Reading With the People of God #16

DAY 18 OF 31

Wake Up and Follow

In today’s readings, Amos delivers a wake-up call to a people comfortable in their wealth and complacency, ignoring the cries of injustice around them. God warns that security without justice is fragile and fleeting. Amos also shows us the tension between judgment and mercy—a reminder that God’s call to repentance is always paired with His desire for restoration.

Meanwhile, Jesus challenges the status quo in Mark. He speaks to issues of marriage, wealth, and what it truly means to follow Him. Jesus invites us into a life of surrender, where trusting God outweighs earthly security, and where following Him demands wholehearted commitment.

Both passages ask us to examine: Are we resting in comfort or actively living out our faith? How is God calling us to wake up, repent, and follow Him more faithfully?

Prayer to Prepare
Lord, open my eyes to see where I’ve grown complacent. Stir my heart to respond to Your call with courage and faith. Help me to trust You more than comfort, to seek justice, and to follow Jesus with all I have. Prepare me to hear Your Word today and to live it out boldly. Amen.

About this Plan

RETURN to ME: Reading With the People of God #16

This 16th installment of our Reading with the People of God plan invites you into the voices of the Minor Prophets—Hosea through Nahum—calling God’s people to return with sincerity and trust. Paired with the Gospel of Mark, we’ll hear Christ’s invitation to repentance and renewed faith. Each day includes readings from Psalms, the Old Testament, and the New Testament, with a brief devotional primer. May these readings draw you nearer to the Lord, awaken your heart to His mercy, and echo His faithful call: “Return to Me.”
