RETURN to ME: Reading With the People of God #16

DAY 21 OF 31

Video Primer: Jonah — by BibleProject

Before you read Jonah and Mark 11:12–33 today, take about 9 minutes to watch the BibleProject’s overview video on Jonah. Yes—it’s a little longer than usual. But it’s absolutely worth it.

This isn’t just a story about a big fish. It’s a brilliantly designed, deeply challenging book that confronts us with questions about obedience, compassion, and the boundaries of God’s mercy. Jonah runs from God’s call—not because he’s afraid, but because he doesn’t want God to forgive people he dislikes. Sound familiar?

The video walks through the rich structure, irony, and meaning of Jonah in a way that will open your eyes and deepen your understanding. It will help you slow down, think deeply, and see yourself in Jonah’s story.

In Mark 11, Jesus confronts a similar issue: people going through the motions of religion while resisting God’s heart for justice, mercy, and prayer. The fig tree has leaves but no fruit. The temple is active but spiritually empty.

So slow down today. Make space. Watch the video. Let God speak.
Jonah and Jesus both ask us the same question:
Will you join God’s mission—or resist it from the inside?

About this Plan

RETURN to ME: Reading With the People of God #16

This 16th installment of our Reading with the People of God plan invites you into the voices of the Minor Prophets—Hosea through Nahum—calling God’s people to return with sincerity and trust. Paired with the Gospel of Mark, we’ll hear Christ’s invitation to repentance and renewed faith. Each day includes readings from Psalms, the Old Testament, and the New Testament, with a brief devotional primer. May these readings draw you nearer to the Lord, awaken your heart to His mercy, and echo His faithful call: “Return to Me.”
