RETURN to ME: Reading With the People of God #16Sample

RETURN to ME: Reading With the People of God #16

DAY 17 OF 31

When Worship Misses the Mark

There’s a tension in today’s readings that hits close to home. Amos exposes a hard truth: God isn’t pleased with worship that’s disconnected from justice and righteousness. Empty rituals and sacrifices mean nothing when lives are out of sync with God’s heart (Amos 5:21-24). It’s a challenge to examine whether our own faith practices truly reflect God’s desire for mercy and integrity.

Meanwhile, in Mark, Jesus teaches about the cost of discipleship—the radical commitment to follow Him fully, even when it’s hard. He calls us to live with humility, to reconcile quickly, and to be willing to make difficult choices for the sake of others.

Both Amos and Jesus are calling us to look beyond the surface. True worship isn’t just what happens in church—it’s how we live every day.

So here’s the question: What parts of your life might be “worship” that misses the mark? How is God calling you to realignment, real faith, and real action?

The invitation stands: return not just in word, but in deed.

About this Plan

RETURN to ME: Reading With the People of God #16

This 16th installment of our Reading with the People of God plan invites you into the voices of the Minor Prophets—Hosea through Nahum—calling God’s people to return with sincerity and trust. Paired with the Gospel of Mark, we’ll hear Christ’s invitation to repentance and renewed faith. Each day includes readings from Psalms, the Old Testament, and the New Testament, with a brief devotional primer. May these readings draw you nearer to the Lord, awaken your heart to His mercy, and echo His faithful call: “Return to Me.”
