Taking Flight

DAY 1 OF 5

TIME TO CHECK IN!

I don't know about you, but check-ins for flights can get very stressful quickly, especially in an overcrowded airport. I sweat, constantly check my surroundings, and always look for the nearest restroom. My husband will try to play off his airport stress by continually saying, "Everything will be just fine, Julie." But it's there for most of us—stress, whether we like it or not. The struggle is real.

What about "checking in" to prepare for that final departure—the one where we meet our Maker face to face? We are undoubtedly a continual work in process as believers, but we must always be mindful to continually check in with the One who created us to assure ourselves of good standing with Him at all times.

Let's check in with Ephesians 6:18: If we continually pray as instructed, there's a start. We must pray in the Spirit at all times, stay alert, and make supplications for the saints of God in preparation for that final flight.

We must be mindful that God is always watching and listening, and nothing-absolutely nothing gets past Him. It's time to take every thought captive. Take every word and deed captive before turning them loose. The transformational power of Jesus Christ in our lives must be evident as believers.

How do we best prepare for Heaven when most of the runway is behind us? What practical steps can one take as we get closer and closer to our destination?

Let's begin by making the habit of praying without ceasing. (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

What might that look like? It may look like you are thanking God for waking you up and telling Him good morning before you even get out of bed. Then, think about all the things you are grateful for. Throughout your day, thank Him in gratitude for Who He is. Tell Him how wonderful He is and praise Him. Sing praises to Him in your car on the way to work or an appointment. Let your time in your car when no one else is in there with you be about communing with Him.

Prayer and praise should go hand-in-hand for greater effectiveness. The two, together, produce an optimal relationship with Christ. And don't go to bed at night without talking to The One who loves you the most!

Starting now, practice a continual state of prayer, including small, big, and everything in between.

Day 2

About this Plan

Taking Flight

How can we best prepare to hear those hoped-for words, "Well done, thy good and faithful servant?" No one knows when that appointed time will manifest to meet the Father, so it is vital to do the prep work to be ready. Some know most of the runway is behind them, while many don't realize that it is already behind them and flight is coming. Let's search the Scriptures to prepare our hearts, minds, and spirits for that great reunion in the sky!
