Strength for Tomorrow

DAY 15 OF 30

Day 15: Jonah – Strength to Obey God's Call

Scripture: Jonah 1:1-3; 3:1-10; Matthew 11:28-30
Key Verse:
“But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish.” – Jonah 1:3

Jonah is often remembered for his disobedience, but his story is ultimately about God’s mercy toward Nineveh and Jonah himself. When God called Jonah to preach to the wicked city, he fled in the opposite direction. Yet God pursued him, using a storm and a great fish to bring him back to obedience.

Even when Jonah finally obeyed, his heart was reluctant, and he preached a terrible sermon to the Ninevites. He struggled to accept God’s compassion for sinners. Yet his story reminds us that God’s strength is not just for those who feel ready to obey; it is for those who struggle, resist, and even run away. God didn’t give up on Ninevah, and He didn’t give up on Jonah.

God doesn’t give up on us when we hesitate or fail. He strengthens us for the tasks He calls us to, even when difficult. And when we finally surrender, we find His ways are always better than our own.

Prayer Focus: Ask God for the strength to obey Him, even when His calling is difficult or uncomfortable.

About this Plan

Strength for Tomorrow

Jesus told us that our weariness comes from carrying a burden that is too heavy for us. Instead, we are supposed to give our problems, cares, and concerns to Him and allow Him to give us the strength to do what He asks. He will teach us to do this over the next 30 days because He is humble and gentle at heart. God's word will show us examples of people throughout scripture who put their burdens in His hands and found rest for their souls.
