Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year One

DAY 310 OF 365

And do you seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them; for behold, I will bring adversity on all flesh (Jeremiah 45:5).

Do you understand the times in which you live?

Baruch serves Jeremiah well. He is a faithful scribe to Jeremiah during a difficult period in Israel's history. Daniel is taken into captivity to Babylon in the same year that Nebuchadnezzar ascends his throne (605 BC). Ezekiel experiences the same during the second deportation by the powerful king (597 BC). Now in 586 BC Jerusalem and its Temple are destroyed. Perhaps Baruch desires to be like Elisha the servant of Elijah and accomplish great things; however, this is not part of God's plan. He humbles His people and they have to endure a period of captivity lasting seventy years (Jeremiah 25:11). God says to Baruch, "But I will give your life to you as a prize in all places" (Jeremiah 45:5).

Employment Point: Serve the Lord and allow Him to reward you accordingly.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year One

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions helps readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word.
