40 Days With the Risen LordSample

40 Days With the Risen Lord

DAY 7 OF 40

Day for Reflection

Our prayer life often reflects how much we have grasped God's grace towards us.

The prayers of challenge from this week have asked you to call on God your heavenly Father that you might be assured of his love from his Word.

Words have so much power. Words can create wars; words can destroy or can bring peace and healing. When God's Spirit ignites his word in your life, you can be sure that his word is truth. God does what he says he will do.

As a precious child in Christ, our heavenly Father wants to hear you - yes, you - pray. He wants to delight in your prayers. He wants you to be assured of his love. His word tells you over and over again, "While you were still sinners, Christ died for you."

Accept God's love however you view your prayer life. Just as you delight in his word, he wants to delight in your words to him, as any good father does.

A Prayer for Revival

Revive thy work, O Lord, Create soul-thirst for thee

And hungering for the Bread of Life O may our spirits be.

Revive thy work, O Lord Exalt thy precious name,

And by the Holy Ghost, our love for thee and thine inflame.

Revive thy work, O Lord Give pentecostal showers

The glory shall be all thine own, thy blessing, Lord, be ours.

– Albert Midlane (1858)

All is for God

God has created me to do him some definite service; he has committed some work to me that he has not committed to another. I have my mission... therefore I will trust him. Whatever I am, I can never be thrown away. If I am in sickness, my sickness may serve him; in perplexity, my perplexity may serve him; if I am in sorrow, my sorrow may serve him. My sickness, or perplexity, or sorrow may be necessary causes of some great end, which is quite beyond us. He does nothing in vain.

– John Henry Newman, Prayers, Verses and Devotions

Journal Exercise

Then (Jesus) said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23). Glance quickly over the last week’s readings from Luke and the prayers in your journal. Reflect before God for a while and then write a prayer that best captures your thoughts, feelings and desired actions.

Prayer Quote

There is no mode in life - in the world- more pleasing and full of delight than continual conversation with God.

– Brother Lawrence

A Challenging Prayer

In submission to our Lord Jesus Christ and in obedience to his command to make disciples of all nations, we call upon God for such an outpouring of his Spirit that we might know his love through his word, seek to please the Saviour in all things, manifest the godly life, and have a prayerful and sacrificial compassion for the lost in all the world.
