40 Days With the Risen Lord

DAY 12 OF 40

The Disciple’s Reflect on Jesus Prayer

A Prayer

Let us pray for his people as Jesus did (John 17:11b).

Holy Father,

Protect us by the power of your name - the name you gave your son Jesus - so that we may be one as you are one. You have given us your word and the world has hated us, for we are not of the world any more than Jesus is of the world. Our prayer is not that you take us out of the world, but that you protect us from the evil one. Your greatest desire is to see your people know the unity you have in the Godhead - the unity only Christ can give us. May we stand firm against anything that the evil one sends to divide us. Make us salt and light in this world. Lord, please appoint more workers for the harvest and send them out. Convict me as to where I am to be a worker for you; where your harvest is for me. "Here I am, Lord. Send me." Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Quote

Instead of being critical of people, pray for them. It's time to stop judging and start praying.

– Michael W. Smith

Journal Exercise

The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few. Think of Christians you know. Are there three who might be called by God to be full-time ministers of the world? Write a prayer which asks God to call and send labourers into the harvest. Build into the prayer the possibility that these three people might be stirred to respond to this need.

Reflect on what caused Jesus to rejoice in prayer to the father after the 72 returned. Write a prayer praising God for his character and rejoice in him.

A Challenging Prayer

Call upon God to multiply the number of well trained persons lovingly dedicated to proclaiming the gospel.
