Authority is a difficult topic of conversation these days. In some ways, it has become a dirty word. We don't want authority over us. In our minds, authority exists only as long as we agree with the it, and the moment we no longer agree, we reserve the right to walk away. Genesis 1 corrects our thinking. There is an authority over us because the Creator has a right over the creation. More importantly, the Creator knows the best way to accomplish the best good with the best result for his creation.
In this sense, God's authority over us is the kindest, most loving thing he can do because he's telling us the best way to live. The Creation Story demonstrates how God is the creative authority over us, guiding us into flourishing.
Think it over: How does the Creation Story still speak to us today?
