If we think too long about God's desire to create us, it might give us a big head. We may think we must be so incredible God just had to make us. In some ways, we may begin thinking we're his reason for existing. But Paul here gives us a deeper understanding of what was happening in creation. He says that God made everything through Jesus. Jesus, in a sense, is God as a verb. But he also says that everything was created for Jesus.
Notice the order: creation was made for Jesus, not the other way around. You and I exist for a purpose, his purpose.
Think it over: Why does it matter that everything was made through Jesus and for Jesus?
