God’s people are in Egypt because Joseph was sold into slavery. Because of God’s goodness and sovereignty, His people migrated to Egypt and flourished. Yet, as we have seen, because of the Fall, there is sin, oppression, and evil in this world. God’s people suffered tremendously under the wicked Pharaoh of Egypt.
So, they cried out to God, and He not only heard their prayers, but he raised up a “savior,” Moses, who would rescue them and bring them out of slavery. Moses foreshadows Christ, who redeems us and rescues us from the slavery of sin and death.
Think it Over: Do you think the Israelites found it easy or difficult at the moment to believe God heard their prayers and cries? What should this teach us when it comes to our lives?
