REFLECT + FOCUS
A man played a joke on a co-worker by telling him in the morning “You look sick!”. Then he secretly got the other workers around the workplace to say the same thing. And what happened? By midday, the co-worker felt so sick he went home for the rest of the day!
You’ve been lied to! By the devil, by society, by well-meaning people. Probably by your own parents, family members, teachers, doctors, coaches. Perhaps many thought they were helping you - but they didn’t know the truth and instead spoke lies that you received as truth.
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth. Jesus said:
“…he will guide you into all truth.”
John 16:13 NIV
We are commanded to discern everything we hear by the Word of God, and the Holy Spirit and accept it or reject it according to what He says to us. 1 Thessalonians 5:21 NIV commands us to:
“Test all things and hold to that which is good.”
If we don’t do this, we can end up receiving a lie as if it is truth. Those lies or half-truths keep us in pain and sickness and could even kill us.
… Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 8:31-32 NIV
Freedom doesn’t come from just knowing the truth, it comes from firstly holding to Jesus’ teachings. There is an active process required to take each and everything we believe, about God, ourselves, and other people - and hold it up to the light of His word. So when your own thoughts or words spoken to you don’t line up with the Word of God revealed by His Holy Spirit, we must reject them.
Brothers, for many this literally will be life or death!
SHOUT
As you declare today’s shout, invite the Spirit of Truth - the Holy Spirit - who lives in you, to reveal any lies you believe about yourself and replace them with His truth!
If you hold to His teaching
You will know the truth
And the truth will set you free
