REFLECT + FOCUS
When David failed in sin, he was broken, repentant - but came back quickly.
He knew he wasn’t deserving, but at the same time he understood the love and mercy of God. He knew that God delighted in him. He didn’t waste his time focussing on his own failure and sin. He repented quickly and then focussed on God’s goodness, love and delight.
Look at these words of David after repenting for a season of living in disobedience to God:
“He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.”
Psalm 18:19 NIV
Brothers, do you know that God delights in you? He doesn’t just put up with you! He likes you, and wants you to know and live in His delight.
Think of a loving father with his adventurous two-year-old at the park. The son runs off, to a place he shouldn’t be, and gets covered in mud and garbage. But the Father welcomes him back, and cleans him off. The father only has one thing in mind - removing everything that hinders the relationship, so they can continue to delight in one another.
Many believers prefer to remain in the pig pen of their own failures - focussed on themselves, their own weakness, failure and sin. But the Holy Spirit in you wants to give you assurance of forgiveness, cleansing and a growing understanding of His delight in you.
SHOUT
As you declare today’s shout - remember God is not just putting up with You. His delight means that He is waiting expectantly to spend time with you. Ask Him to show you more of His delight for you.
The LORD delights in those who fear him,
who put their hope in his unfailing love.
Psalm one-forty-seven, verse eleven
