“Be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy.”

What do you think when you hear the word “holy”?

I like this example: there are many different types of brushes in your house. Toothbrushes, hair brushes, clothing brushes, sink brushes, toilet brushes.

Each one has been specifically made and “set apart” for its purpose. We keep them separated for very good reasons - you had better not mix them up!

In the same way, holiness means exactly that; in Christ, we have been removed from the mundane and unclean things of the world, and have been set aside specifically for God and His purposes. We still live in the world in our physical bodies, but now, as members of Christ, we dwell in a different Kingdom, by a whole different set of values.

Firstly, God has made us holy by placing us in Christ, His perfect Son, giving us His very own righteousness. Then through His Spirit living in us, we can confidently walk in holiness each day. If we stumble or fall, we simply repent, turn back to Him, thank Him for His cleansing and grace, and continue walking in holiness.

We have the promises of His grace and His very own Spirit living in us:

“Therefore, beloved, since we have these promises, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that defiles body and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”
2 Corinthians 7:1 NIV

As you declare today’s shout, let go of the lie that you don’t measure up. God has placed you in Christ and given you everything you need to walk in holiness!
