The Power of a DaySample

The Power of a Day

DAY 7 OF 7

“Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.” Francis of Assisi

As we sit together on our final day, I was reminded of this powerful quote from St. Francis. I hope God’s Word inspires each day to build up your faith. If you feel stagnant in your faith, let the words of St. Francis help lead you. Maybe you just need to do what is necessary.

When you are in the middle of a storm, I know how hard it can feel to look beyond it. I wrote The Power of a Day to remind you of many before you who have been in similar situations. Use their stories to inject faith into your story.

On this final day together, I feel the need to create something called the “kitchen sink.” The kitchen sink is the name of an ice cream sundae. I’ll never forget the first time I saw the kitchen sink sundae in real life. I was maybe around 12, and a family near us ordered one. I had read about what it was on the menu, but when I saw it with my own eyes, I couldn’t believe what I saw. The kitchen sink sundae consisted of just about everything at the ice cream shop. It was constructed with 12 scoops of ice cream, followed by chocolate, caramel, bananas, nuts, whip cream, marshmallows, gummy worms, and anything else you wanted to throw in.

I want to leave you today with the kitchen sink of faith sundae. We have had six days of incredible Power of Day stories from the Bible, but I want to fill up your faith even more.

Let’s start with Ruth. She was widowed. She was homeless. Life was not going her way. Ruth decided to stay with her mother-in-law (Naomi), where she would be introduced to Boaz. Ruth humbled herself to work in the fields for food for her and Naomi. Then, The Power of a Day happened.

While Ruth gathered food in the fields, Boaz recognized her. Boaz found out who she was. Boaz discovered her story, looked after her, and married her. Ruth went from a humble widow to becoming the great-grandmother of King David and part of the lineage of Jesus.

Imagine what was going through the mind of Lazarus when he became sick. In John chapter 8, Jesus discovers his friend and “one who he loved” was sick. Jesus didn’t make it in time, and Lazarus died. Lazarus is then buried in a tomb. It looks as if he is gone forever. However, in one day, Lazarus goes from dead in a tomb to raised from the dead and alive again with Jesus. You don’t know what can happen in The Power of a Day.

In Acts chapter 9, Saul is obsessed with wiping out the disciples of Jesus. A few chapters before, Saul witnessed the stoning of Stephen, and he is raging for more. He is opposed to everything the disciples were trying to do. He wanted them dead and had the connections to make it happen. Then, The Power of a Day happened.

While on the road to finding and killing more Christians, Saul was blinded by the Lord. Saul seeks refuge, where he fasted for three days. Ananias receives a message from the Lord to pray for Saul. Saul’s sight is restored. Saul committed his life to building the church where he would write two-thirds of the New Testament.

What about Jesus? In Matthew 26, Jesus is betrayed. Jesus is beaten. Jesus is lied about. Jesus’ disciples scattered in fear. Jesus was beaten, hung on a cross, and buried in a tomb. He dies with the sin of the world on his account. Then The Power of a Day happened again.

Jesus went from wrapped and dead in a tomb to alive and risen in full glory. While everyone, including his disciples, thought Jesus was dead, He arose for all to see. He arose for his power to continue in and through you.

What do you need the strength and courage for in your life?
What do you need the Power of a Day for in your life?
When was the last time you took the time to invest in your spirit?
What I mean is, when was the last time you intentionally invested in your spiritual growth?
What would that look like in your life?
Where do you want to be spiritually?
Can you see what that looks like for you?
What would you be doing?
Where would your time be allocated?
What do you think would happen if you began this new spiritual practice?
How would you hold yourself accountable?
What if The Power of a Day is on the other side of this new commitment?
What if today is a sign for you to begin?
What if this message was God getting your attention to draw closer to Him?

I’d love to pray with you as we close this day together.

I believe you’re here and reading this for a reason.

I believe God works all things together for good. I believe God is good, and good is God.

Lord, please help my friend. Speak to them as only you can.
I ask for your presence to be made known in their life.
I believe as they seek you, they will find you.
Give them the courage and strength to spend time with you.
Show them glimpses of the Power of a Day in their life.
Love them as only you can.
Thank you for hearing my prayer.
Amen.
