The Power of a DaySample

The Power of a Day

DAY 2 OF 7

While bombarded with sickness, I received news that our No. 1 income stream would be shut down.

Just like that, it would be dissolved. There was nothing I could do, and my mind was too weak to think creatively. All I could hear my mind say was, “what did you do to your family?” You are totally screwed.” I was bombarded by negativity. I felt like the sickness in my body was causing my mind to go crazy. Have you ever felt like that?

When I had a moment to reflect on this time, I felt the Lord draw me to the story in Mark 5 about the man with a legion of demons. I’m not saying I felt like I had a legion of demons. I would say I felt like demons were tormenting me. As I read this story, it reminded me of the power of a day.

You see, the day before, this demon-possessed man was just a crazy person living in a cemetery. Legion was a man bound with chains to protect himself and others. But when Jesus showed up, it said, “he (Legion) ran to meet Jesus and fell at his feet.”

Imagine what this demon-possessed man must have felt in the presence of Jesus. Imagine what the thought of freedom looked like for him.

As Legion fell at the feet of Jesus, his first response was, “please don’t torment me.” Jesus replied, “come out of him, you unclean spirit.” Jesus later sent the demons into pigs and watched the countenance of the man change completely.

The day before, Legion was just a demon-possessed man living among the tombs, tormented by demons and cutting himself. However, The Power of a Day and the power of Jesus entered his life. His life changed completely. Everything he knew changed.

It said, “Legion went into the Decapolis where he would tell of the miracle in his life.”

When my mind was tormented and terrified, the Lord helped to remind me of His power and presence. As I was reminded, I gave my body some rest. I began to think and meditate on God’s Word to rebuild my mind.

You might wonder, what did you do, or what did you meditate upon? Let me share with you some scriptures I not only read but verbally recited as personal confessions.

' “Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”' Matthew 11:28-30
'Therefore we do not give up. Even though our outer person is being destroyed, our inner person is being renewed day by day. For our momentary light affliction is producing for us an absolutely incomparable eternal weight of glory. ' 2 Corinthians 4:16-17
'Consider it a great joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you experience various trials, because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing. ' James 1:2-4
'Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. ' Philippians 4:6-7
'casting all your cares on him, because he cares about you. ' 1 Peter 5:7

My perspective changed as I read, recited, and replayed these verses in my mind. I began to uncover my buried faith and forcibly create a way forward. I felt courage return to my mind and God’s peace and presence.

The Power of Day changed a demon-possessed man. The Power of a Day changed my frail mind, and I believe it can change anything happening in your mind right now.

I want to pray with you right now.

Lord, bring peace to their situation right now.
I ask for your presence to overwhelm their fears and doubts.
I ask for their perspective to see the greatness and glory of you.
I pray for miracles in their moments.
I ask for the tests to be turned into their testimony.
I ask for their worries to be turned into wisdom.
Lord do what only you can do.
Make yourself known to them in Jesus’ name, Amen.

I’m rooting and praying with you.

Let me know what resonated with you the most.
