The Power of a Day

DAY 4 OF 7

Have you ever been away from the Lord, then decided to re-commit?

You get excited. You start reading your Bible. You get back in church. You feel like you are on fire again when all of a sudden, your life falls apart. Maybe you lost your job. Maybe someone in the house gets sick. Maybe you have a lawsuit raised against you. My hand is raised with you! I’ve had this happen many times.

My initial reaction in dramatic fashion is to recreate the cover of the film Platoon. I fall to the ground. I raise my hands to the sky and yell to the Lord, “why me!” Maybe I am a little dramatic, but you get the idea. Why is all this bad stuff happening to me when I am being so good but getting terrible results? Why me? Why my family? Why now?

After I take some time to reflect and spend some time with the Lord, I usually feel pretty foolish but also encouraged. During these times is when getting into the Word is paramount. I crave what the King wants to say to me. Read below what James has to say.

'Consider it a great joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you experience various trials, because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing. ' James 1:2-4

I get it. God gets it. Life isn’t going your way. However, what if you changed your perspective instead of thinking life isn’t going your way? What if these trials were meant for your good? What if they were meant to strengthen you? What if they were meant to build up your character for your Kingdom calling? What if The Power of a Day was on the other side of your trial?

What about the story of Daniel? A legend in Babylon. Daniel was praying three times per day. He was seeking God. He was loving the Lord, and then what happened? Daniel’s enemies conspire against him. His enemies catch Daniel praying to the Lord and report him to King Darius. Unfortunately, Daniel was thrown into a den of lions.

Imagine what Daniel could have been saying to the Lord. Imagine the complaints he could have screamed to the Lord? Nevertheless, Daniel was steadfast in trusting in the Lord. Ultimately, the Lord rescued Daniel, and the God of Israel’s name was spread across the entire Babylonian empire. The Power of a Day was made known in Daniel’s life.

The night before, Daniel was lowered into a den of hungry lions. The night before, Daniel’s life was in the hands of the Lord. The Power of a Day was manifested before Daniel, the leaders of Babylon, and all of Israel.

What about your life?

What feels like you were tossed in the lion’s den? What do you know you need to believe about the Lord?
What act of faith do you need to live out today? What words do you need to change to remain steadfast in what God has promised for you?
What is this season teaching you? What are you learning? What is happening for you?
What is making you stronger?

The Power of a Day is closer than you know. While weeping may endure for a night, joy comes in the morning. Remind yourself of all the good things the Lord has done for you.

Let me know what resonated with you the most.

I’m rooting and praying for you.
