Exodus: A Group StudySample

Exodus: A Group Study

DAY 74 OF 77

What is this passage saying?

As Moses finishes construction, Yahweh’s glory filled the tabernacle and the pillar of cloud and fire settled on it.

What is this passage teaching?

The story of the Exodus finds its climax in this scene. The display of Yahweh’s omnipotent power in the plagues, providential sovereignty in the wilderness and loyal love at Sinai were all designed to bring His people into His presence. However, these were only shadows compared to the greatness of God’s work to come. In Christ, the omnipotent power of God redeemed His people from true spiritual slavery to death, sin, and hell. In Christ, the providential sovereignty of God leads and guides His people through the wilderness of this life into the Promised Land of eternal life. In Christ, the loyal love of God binds His people to Himself forever, assuring that what God has started He will always be faithfully loyal to complete (Philippians 1:6). The greatest gift of the gospel is God Himself, and He will always be enough.

How do I Respond?

As you end the book of Exodus, take some time to reflect on all you have learned about God, about yourself, and about the kingdom He is calling you to serve. Like Israel, you too have been delivered from the slavery of sin into God’s presence. As you navigate the wilderness of this life, He is the pillar of cloud and fire, leading and guiding you towards holiness in Him. As you stumble through sin and idolatry, God is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in loyal love and faithfulness. You serve Yahweh – the God who will always be who He has always been – and He will always be enough for you.
