Exodus: A Group Study

DAY 73 OF 77

What is this passage saying?

The priests’ garments are sewn to minister in the Holy Place.

What is this passage teaching?

The high priest would wear a plate on his head, inscribed with the phrase “Holy to Yahweh” (Exodus 39:30). The plate was a reminder before all the people that the sacrifices, made in faith, would be sufficient to elicit Yahweh’s promises of grace, atonement, and forgiveness. As Aaron consecrated himself, he represented Israel’s faith in Yahweh to keep His promises to make them all a kingdom of priests (Exodus 19:6).

How do I respond?

Just as Aaron consecrated himself for service to Yahweh, so you too are called to be consecrated in holiness to serve the Lord. Peter writes, “As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct” (1 Peter 1:14-15). As royal priests, ransomed by the blood of Christ, God calls his people to be holy so that they “may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9). How does living in darkness hamper your ability to proclaim the excellencies of Christ who called you into His marvelous light? What does it look like to intentionally cultivate holiness?
