Exodus: A Group Study

DAY 75 OF 77

What is this passage saying?

In the only psalm attributed to him, Moses praises God for his sovereign providence, enduring patience, and loyal love.

What is this passage teaching?

For all his faithfulness, Moses never experienced the blessings of the Promised Land (Deuteronomy 34:1-8). His life was the desert – 40 years as an exiled shepherd of flocks and 40 more years as the shepherd of God’s chosen people. Moses’ resiliency in life and leadership was not rooted in his natural gifting or skill. Rather, Moses awoke every morning satisfied in the loyal love of the Lord (Psalm 90:14). Although his part of the story was wilderness wandering, Moses “knew Yahweh face to face” and experienced His omnipotent power and sovereign providence throughout all his days (Deuteronomy 34:10-12). He knew his God was Yahweh, and He would always be who He had always been.

How do I respond?

No matter the wilderness wandering before you, God is your true dwelling place. Everywhere you go, Yahweh walks before you like a pillar of cloud and smoke, leading and guiding you towards holiness in Him. Like Moses, your story may feel like a lot of wilderness wandering, full of complaining, disappointment, and sin. However, you too can be satisfied with the loyal love of God every morning. When you wake up in the morning, remember that as God has been faithful since the very beginning, He will be faithful to you every day. No matter your part in the story, you can trust God to always be who He has always been.
