The Will of the Lord Will Be Made Clear to Us

• Though this passage might feel extreme, it’s in the Bible, so we can’t ignore it. What did this son do that was wrong?
• The “will of the Lord” was not clear to them on what the consequence should be for this man who blasphemed God’s name. Where should we look for what to do when “the will of the Lord” for us isn’t clear? I.e. How does the Lord speak to us now?
• What does “blaspheme” mean? How might we do that in our everyday conversation and not realize it?
• What does the Lord’s response show us about how He feels about us revering His name?
• If it was the “will of the Lord” for this man to be stoned, why is it not the “will of the Lord” for stoning to happen now for blaspheming God’s name? 

Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you if you have been blaspheming God’s name in a way that does not show reverence. Do you flippantly say, “Oh my God” as a display of shock? How does that violate the second commandment, “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain” (Ex 20:7)? What can help you walk in the will of the Lord in terms of revering Him?
