#JESUS2020 - Daily DevotionalsSample

These two verses are about feasts, about celebrating. Celebrations are an often-reoccurring topic in the Bible, and the people of Israel were also encouraged to celebrate several feasts a year. The Feast of Passover is one of them. Why are feasts so important? Why is celebrating considered a spiritual discipline in the Bible? The text gives three reasons for the importance of celebrating:
- The generational memory: " On that day tell your son ..." The parents were there when the angel of death spared the firstborn Israelites. They were present during the triumphal exodus from Egypt and the division of the Red Sea. And the children? They become bored when their parents or grandparents talk about it for the hundredth time. God does this in a world-class pedagogical way. The children should not be bored by repetitive narratives but be reminded of it through lively celebrations. Thus, the experiences of the previous generation become their experiences and nourish their faith.
- "The feast will be for you like a sign on your hand and a reminder on your forehead.” If we really do not want to forget something, we make a knot in a handkerchief or put a reminder in our cell phone. The Jewish feasts had exactly this purpose: remember, remember, remember. Lively, joyful, positive, life-affirming. Not boring and lifeless. This way it should become a sign on the hand, a reminder on the forehead, a knot in a handkerchief or even a reminder in the cell phone.
- “… that this law of the Lord is to be on your lips.” What should we be reminded of? Of God’s great deeds? Certainly! But above all that, it is worthwhile to obey God's commandments - that there is freedom and life, liberation and change in doing this. Those who obey God's commandments create the framework for breakthroughs in their lives.
ACTION STEP:
Plan a party where you celebrate something God has given you (your marriage, children, change in your life...). Invite friends, give God the glory and celebrate life.

About this Plan

The Lamb of God dies in Jerusalem, on a cross. Three days later He rose from the dead - sin and death are overcome. Two thousand years later, His blood sets me free. During the weeks before Easter, we want to acquire a deeper understanding of this fundamental event of our faith, get to know Jesus better and experience how His loving deed on the cross changes our lives forever.
