Graduation Day!

DAY 5 OF 5

Wisdom From A Legend

In Acts and 1 Timothy we learn that Timothy’s mother was a Jewish believer. He had the privilege of hearing the Word in the most amazing manner—from His mom! She had passed down a love for God and had taught him from the Jewish writings since he was a young boy. It was at the knees of his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice that he was led to faith. He gained from these two women the foundation for strength and character.

Timothy had a “genuine faith,” the same as that which lived in his mother and grandmother (2 Timothy 1:1-5). Eunice and Lois prepared Timothy to accept Christ by teaching him the Old Testament Scriptures and preparing him “from infancy” to recognize the Messiah when He appeared (2 Timothy 3:15). Then Paul came along and told them about Jesus, the Messiah. It was that day when Timothy accepted that Jesus died for his sins.

His life changed that day. He graduated!

Paul gave Timothy some great advice. As we learned in our passage today, Paul encouraged Timothy to keep learning. He wanted Timothy to continue in the things he had learned. We can identify with that great advice. Getting a diploma or a degree isn’t the end to learning. Stay curious and keep learning throughout our life.

Paul also encouraged Timothy to remember those who had taught him. So many people have impacted your life and influenced who you are today—teachers, parents, administrators, pastors, and so on. Take time to thank them.

Lastly, Paul gave Timothy some of the best advice possible. “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” Let God’s Word be your guide. It is always reliable, always profitable and will always lead you back to your source of help—your Savior.

Ask God to give you an intense love and passion for His Word.

Suggested Prayer:

God, I want that. I desire to have an intense love and passion for Your Word. I want Your Word to change me, to lead me, to correct me and equip me for every good work. Give me that passion. In Jesus’ name, amen.
