Waiting In Line

You’ve longed for your turn—your time to make your own way. You’re up next! 

Or maybe you’ve dreaded it. Or ran from it as fast as possible. Either way, it’s time. Your life is about to change.

A young Jewish woman named Esther was waiting for her turn. She had been one of 400 women chosen to fill the harem of the king and be candidates for the new queen. She had undergone a year’s worth of beauty treatments before meeting the king.

It was her turn. She was next to be picked. She listened closely to her advisors and followed their instructions. She showed grace, humility, wisdom and “won the favor of everyone who saw her” (Esther 2:15). She was taken to the king and she won His favor. The king called a great banquet and proclaimed her to be the queen!

Talk about pomp and circumstance! Esther’s graduation was perhaps one of the flashiest in all the Bible. The king even proclaimed a holiday in her honor and distributed gifts!

In the next years, God would use Queen Esther’s bravery and her faith in Him to spare the lives of the Jewish people. She saw how God maneuvered every aspect of her life for His purpose, not her power. She was in her position “for such a time as this.” She was faithful to obey. 

Your pomp and circumstance may not have included a crown and dignitaries, but we’re sure it included some celebration. Take Esther as an example and commit to moving forward with humility, knowing that God has a greater purpose in mind. The things you are learning now will be instrumental in the future. Trust Him to lead you in His perfect purpose—for such a time as this.

Dear God, I want to follow Esther’s example. I want to listen closely to You and the wise advisors You put in my path. Help me to be humble and teachable as I move forward to the next stage of my life. Use me and lead me. In Your Son’s name, amen.
