All The Difference

Peter was a fisherman on the sea of Galilee. Peter and his brother Andrew would probably inherit the business someday. One day, Peter’s boat was tied up along the shore while he cleaned his nets on the shore. A man named Jesus asked him to put the boat out a little from the shore and Jesus sat down and taught the people from the boat.

When Jesus had finished teaching, he asked Peter to go out further into the lake and let down the nets. They caught so many fish that day that their nets began to break. When Peter saw all the fish, he was astonished. What was Jesus' response? “…Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people” (Luke 5:10). That day He became a follower of the Messiah.

In a sense, Peter graduated that day! He went from being a common fisherman, to a disciple of Jesus. In fact, Peter became the leader of the disciples. No one else confessed Christ more boldly than Peter. God took a common man who often had an impulsive non-submissive personality and formed him into a great leader.

That day on the boat, Peter was willing to leave all he had to follow Jesus, and God used Him in mighty ways. Even though he was an ordinary person, there was one Man who made all the difference. Acts 4:13 says, that Peter “had been with Jesus.” It was Jesus who made all the difference.

Just like Peter, you can let God mold you and form you into the person He desires you to be. The final words of Peter's epistle says, “Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen” (2 Peter 3:18).

God, may You make all the difference in my life. May You mold me and shape me, taking the rough edges of sin and sanding them away. I want my life to be a beautiful vessel that shines for You. Grow me, Lord. In Jesus’ name, amen.
