DAY 3 OF 5

The Call That Changed A Life

Joseph found himself in jail. He hadn’t done what he was accused of, but none-the-less, he was in jail for allegedly seducing Potiphar’s wife.

How discouraging this must have been. Having been sold by his own brothers to slave traders and then being punished for a crime he didn’t commit. Life certainly wasn’t turning out the way Joseph dreamed it would. As a child, he didn’t look forward to the day he would be working hard in an Egyptian jail with no indication of release.

However, during this time, God blessed Joseph as he stayed faithful to God.

Then the call came.

The modern day equivalent might be that text or email confirming a job interview to a position you’ve always dreamed of. Or that acceptance letter to your top-choice university or grad school! Talk about a life change!

For Joseph, that call came from the king and it would drastically change his life. The king summoned Joseph because he had heard that Joseph could interpret dreams. After listening to the king, Joseph predicted seven years of great harvests that would be followed by seven years of severe famine. He gave full credit to His God. Following this discussion with the king, Joseph was made a ruler in Egypt, and was second only to the king. Talk about a great job interview! He went from prison to ruler in one day!

With God’s help, Joseph went on to be one of the wisest leaders in Egypt’s history and spared his family in Canaan from the devastating drought.

As you start out on the next step in life, remember that there will be hard times. Just like Joseph, hold fast to God and His promises. Joseph was treated unjustly, yet he remained faithful and accepting that God was sovereign. Joseph saw God’s hand at work. “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”

Suggested Prayer:

God, I know that there will be hard times in my life. Help me to cling to You. Give me eyes to see where You are working and accomplishing Your perfect plan. May I rest in the promise that I am Your child. In Jesus’ name, amen.
