DAY 12 OF 89

EL SHADDAI

EL SHADDAI is translated God Almighty and means the “MIGHTY STRONG SUFFICIENT ONE”. He is not just enough but more than sufficient for whatever our need might be. He is “able to do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us” (Eph.3:20). Abram was not merely to become a father but the father of nations; the widow’s oil overflowed into every jar she brought (2 Kings 4:1-7); and when Jesus fed the five thousand there were twelve baskets left over (Matt.14:15-21).

The exact meaning of SHADDAI is unclear. Some scholars think it relates to the breast and as a mother nourishes her baby so God Almighty nourishes us with life and blessings to produce growth and fruitfulness (Isa.66:9-14). Other scholars suggest SHADDAI is more to do with the mightiness of God who can even compel nature to do what is opposite to itself.

What is clear however, is that EL SHADDAI took a barren man and woman and made them not just fruitful but multiplied them as the progenitors of many nations. God Almighty was more than sufficient for impotent Abram and God’s abilities are more than sufficient for you.

Prayer: Lord EL SHADDAI I ask You to make me more fruitful and productive than I could ever imagine
