EL OLAM
In Hebrew OLAM is used to refer to things that are hidden: “the Lord has hidden it” 2 Kings 4:27. It can also refer to time: “at any time” Lev.25:32. In the Key Verse EL OLAM is from eternity past to eternity future. He is God of time; the God of the mystery of time; the God of the secrets of the ages. We see time in a linear progression of individual events but as EL OLAM God has a “helicopter view” of time and sees all events in the same moment. For example God knows the secrets of the end of time (Acts 1:7); God could foretell the coming of His Son and choose the time of His arrival (Gal.4:4).
It is clear that God has secrets but it is also clear He has chosen to gradually reveal some of those mysteries to us (Deut.29:29). Paul often speaks of great mysteries hidden in time past but now revealed to us (Rom.16:25-26). He reveals the mystery of the gospel (Eph.6:19), the mystery of the church (Eph.3:2-11) and the mystery of our union with Christ (Eph.5:32, Col.1:26-27).
Faith involves living with mystery but thank God He has revealed Jesus to us!
