Book of Genesis

NGÀY 2 TRONG 17

THE POWER OF SIN In Genesis 3, we read about the first death ever, that is Abel, who was killed by his own brother Cain. The root cause of the murder is simple: because of “jealousy” (Genesis 4:5). The power of sin didn’t stop there. In Genesis 6 we read how the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually (verse 5). The Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart (verse 6). Therefore, God decided to destroy man from the face of the earth for He was sorry that He had made them. We may think that God is cruel with His decision. But no, God is not cruel. He is the God who is full of love, but He is also a just God. How could He destroy man that was created according to His own image? The man that He love so much? Because of sin, God made this difficult decision. Thankfully, in the situation when wickedness was great, God found Noah, the only person that could please God’s heart, because Noah’s life was righteous and without blemish. The name Noah means “the son of consolation”. We are living in a similar condition or even worse than the times of Noah where wickedness of man was so great. If, in Noah’s time, God was able to find someone that could please His heart, then God is also able to find us to be His “consolation”, we who have received and known the love of God. Let us live righteously and without blemish. He is the God who is full of love, but He is also a just God.
