Deer’s Horns 

Self-confidence is good. But, when it completely displaces the trust in God, pride enters inside a person. Pride always results in destruction. Likewise, humbleness always elevates a person. 

There lived a deer in a forest. It had very beautiful horns. One day it went to a pond to drink water. It saw its own reflection in the pond and was pleased to see its lovely horns. Then it saw its ugly legs. It said to itself, “What unsightly legs, I have! It’s a pity that it has to carry such lovely horns!” Just then, it saw a hunter coming from behind and ran for its life. The unsightly legs which it despised saved its life from the hunter that day. Another day, the deer ran deep into a thick forest and its horns got entangled in a bush. It struggled in vain to break free. The hunter who saw the deer captured it very easily. The horns that were its pride were responsible for its capture too. 

My dear friend, pride never exalts a person. Take time to analyse and see if anything has become like this ‘deer’s horns’ in your life. Do not despise anything or become proud of what God has blessed you with. Glorify God in all that you have. Choose to give thanks for everything. Gratitude towards God makes you humble. A humble person will be delivered from every snare of life. 

Prayer

“Loving Father, I humbly acknowledge that I receive everything from You. Help me to glorify You through all that I have. If any pride is there in me, I seek Your help to get rid of it. Help me escape every snare of the devil by being humble. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”
