Surrender

DAY 5 OF 5

SURRENDER BRINGS JOY

Primary Scripture: Hebrews 12:1–3

“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame.”

Hebrews 12:2 KJV

There is joy on the other side of surrender. Sometimes we cannot see it while we are laying things down. Surrender can feel costly when God asks us to release something familiar, walk away from what is comfortable, or obey without knowing exactly where obedience will lead.

But when you look back and see how far God has brought you, you begin to recognise something: there was joy hidden inside your surrender.

I look at my own life, and I see grace. I see mercy. I see provision. I see growth. I see the fruit of God’s goodness and faithfulness. So much of what I now thank God for stands on the other side of moments when I had to say, “Yes, Lord.”

Jesus surrendered. Jesus endured. And Jesus saw joy beyond the suffering. Surrender does not mean that everything immediately becomes easy. Sometimes your yes to God will require perseverance. But when you endure with your eyes fixed upon Jesus, you begin to see a fulfilment that this world could never manufacture or reward.

The joy set before Jesus included our redemption. Through His obedience, sinners would be saved, sons and daughters reconciled to the Father, captives redeemed, and those who were far away brought near. Jesus laid down His life, and through His surrender we received life.

This teaches us that our surrender may never be only about us. Your obedience can affect your family. Your children may eat the fruit of decisions you are making with God today. Your community may encounter Jesus because you said yes. Someone may discover hope because you surrendered your comfort. Someone may experience freedom because you endured the season in which God was preparing you.

We often stare at what surrender will cost while God sees what obedience will produce. Yet surrender does not mean living without joy until some distant future. Jesus said that He spoke these things so that His joy might remain in us and that our joy might be full (John 15:11 KJV).

The joy is coming, but the joy is also now. There is joy in belonging to God, walking in His will, and watching Him transform you. There is joy in becoming a faithful witness who can testify, “I laid it all down before Jesus, and He proved Himself faithful.”

Do not look only at how difficult surrender feels. Ask another question: whose life could be transformed because I obeyed God? You may be looking at the sacrifice. God may already be looking at the fruit. Keep your eyes upon Jesus. Surrender. Endure. Obey. A life truly laid down before God does not end in emptiness; it bears the kind of joy only God can give.

You may be looking at the sacrifice, while God is already looking at the fruit.

PRAYER

Father, thank You for showing me through Jesus that there is joy in surrender. Give me grace to endure when obedience becomes difficult. Help me not to measure surrender only by what I am releasing, but also by what You desire to produce. Use my life for Your glory, and let others encounter the fruit of a life yielded to Christ. In Jesus’ name, amen.

TODAY’S SURRENDER

Identify one area where obedience feels costly. Then ask: who could experience the fruit of my obedience if I surrender this fully to God?

SCRIPTURE READING
