Surrender

DAY 3 OF 5

LAYING IT ALL DOWN

Primary Scripture: Philippians 2:5–8

“But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.”

Philippians 2:7 KJV

Surrender is laying it all down. When we consider Jesus Christ—the Lamb of God who endured the cross for the joy set before Him—we begin to understand the weight of that statement.

Isaiah 53:7 pictures Him as a lamb led to the slaughter. Think about it: the eternal King came from glory and identified Himself with humanity. The Creator, through whom and for whom all things were created, humbled Himself and took the form of a servant.

Jesus did not cease to be God when He became man. He remained fully God while taking a true human nature. He did not cling to His divine privileges for His own advantage. He humbled Himself and submitted to the Father’s redemptive will.

God’s plan of redemption was established before the foundation of the world. Jesus was not an emergency answer to humanity’s sin. First Peter 1:20 tells us that Christ was foreordained before the foundation of the world and revealed for our sake. His surrender was displayed through His incarnation, earthly obedience, Gethsemane, and ultimately the cross.

Jesus said, “No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself” (John 10:18 KJV). He did not use His power to escape the Father’s will. He laid down His life and completed the work the Father had given Him.

I would never equate my sacrifice with the sacrifice of Jesus. His death was unique, perfect, and sufficient for our redemption. Yet His obedience teaches me what it means to yield my life to the Father.

If I had not left what was normal to me, relocated, and begun a new life surrounded by strangers, I would not have become the person I am today. My surrender began a new movement of God in my life. It was in uncertainty that I witnessed His provision. It was through surrender that I came to know Him more intimately—not only as the God who calls, but as the God who accompanies, provides, and sustains.

The vision God has placed within you may require sacrifice. But surrender must never become recklessness disguised as faith. Seek God seriously. Test what you hear against Scripture. Receive wise, godly counsel, especially when a decision affects your family and responsibilities.

Obedience may lead through discomfort, opposition, and sacrifice. Surrender does not promise an easy life; it rests in a faithful God. He will give you grace for the assignment and strength for the journey. First, seek Him. Let Him speak. Test what you hear. Then, when His direction is clear, obey promptly.

Surrender is laying everything down—not because what you release has no value, but because Jesus is worthy of your complete trust.

PRAYER

Father, thank You for the perfect surrender of Jesus Christ. I lay my plans, fears, ambitions, identity, and future before You. Teach me to recognise Your voice, test everything by Your Word, and obey promptly. Give me wisdom where my choices affect others and courage where fear has delayed me. Let Your will be accomplished in me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

TODAY’S SURRENDER

What is God asking you to lay down in this season? Is an old identity, familiar environment, ambition, or fear preventing you from following Him fully?
