"And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ," Ephesians 3:17b-18 (NIV)

Many African children grew up in homes where love was deeply present but rarely spoken. Parents sacrificed, provided, protected, and cared for their children, yet the words “I love you” were often left unsaid. Even so, that love or lack thereof shaped how children saw themselves and determined the confidence they had to face life's challenges.

Today, expressions of love are often more verbal and visible. While the methods may differ, the impact remains the same: a child who is secure in a parent's love is strengthened from within.

Paul prayed that believers would be “rooted and established in love” and grasp the vastness of Christ's love for them. God does not merely love us from a distance; He wants His love to become the foundation of our lives, like a tree firmly planted by streams of water. When we are grounded in His love, we find stability, confidence, and strength.

Unlike human love, which can be inconsistent or limited, God's love has no boundaries. It is deeper than our failures, higher than our greatest aspirations, wider than any earthly affection, and longer than the journey we will ever travel. His love does not fluctuate with our performance or circumstances.

Paul knew that believers needed more than a theological understanding of God's love; they needed to experience it personally. The world offers many substitutes for love, but none carry the power to transform, secure, and sustain us the way Christ's love does.

Today, let that reality shape how you see yourself and how you face the day ahead.
