"I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your heart through faith." Ephesians 3:16 -17a (NIV)
There is a saying that goes, “No pain, no gain.” Building muscle requires lifting weights and enduring resistance. For many, the process is uncomfortable, even painful. Yet people persevere because they are focused on what they will gain in the end.
In a similar way, our spiritual lives need strength. Paul prayed that believers would be strengthened in their inner being. He understood that while our bodies may appear strong, our inner person can become weak. Our love can grow cold, our hope can fade, our faith can waver, and our self-control can diminish under the pressures of life.
The encouraging truth is that God does not expect us to generate this strength on our own. Paul points believers to the source of true spiritual power—the riches of God's glory. His resources are unlimited and never depleted. When our spiritual reserves are running low, we do not have to rely on our own strength. We can turn to Him.
Perhaps today you feel weary in your faith. Maybe your love for God is not what it once was, or you are struggling to hold on to hope. This passage reminds us that God is able to strengthen what is weak within us. He supplies what we lack and renews what has been depleted.
The Christian life was never meant to be lived on borrowed strength from yesterday. Each day, we are invited to draw from the endless resources of our Heavenly Father. When we come to the end of ourselves, we discover that He has more than enough for us.
