Choose Your Soundtrack

If there is one thing my daughter is not a fan of, it is thunderstorms. Not the rain or the wind, but the sound of thunder.

Every time a storm rolled through, I noticed a pattern. She would quietly walk over to a small stereo in our living room, turn it on, and play worship music.

One day, I asked her, “Mija (daughter in Spanish), why are you doing that?”

She said, “The thunder scares me, but the music makes me feel good.”

As soon as she said that, I felt the Lord speak to my heart.

She was choosing how to respond to the storm.

The thunder was real, but so was her response. She could not control the storm, but she could choose what she listened to. She turned up the volume of peace.

That moment reminded me how powerful our choices are in the middle of fear.

Storms are part of life. They show up in our health, our finances, our relationships, and our emotions. And fear tries to rise with them.

But fear does not have to win.

The question is, what will we focus on? What will we tune in to?

Her choice did not calm the storm, but it calmed her.

When we shift our attention to God, our hearts can find peace even in chaos. We may not be able to stop the thunder, but we can choose the voice we listen to.

Psalm 56:3 says, “When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.”

That is not just a reminder. It is a strategy.

Fear may knock, but trust can answer.

Pause: What voices are you listening to most when life gets loud: fear or faith?

Plan: Choose one truth to turn to this week: a worship song, a verse, or a reminder, and go back to it when fear rises.

Pray: God, when fear rises, help me tune in to Your voice. Fill my heart with truth that brings peace.
