Snapshots: Work Within

DAY 1 OF 5

Grow Where You’re Planted

Walking through a parking lot one day, my eyes were drawn to a tiny plant breaking through a concrete barrier. Of all places to take root, this seed had picked one of the most unlikely. And yet, it was growing.

I stood there, amazed, and felt God whisper one word: perseverance.

This plant had every reason not to make it. The ground was hard, the space was small, and the conditions were rough. But something inside it kept pushing upward. It did not wait for perfect conditions. It simply did what it was created to do: grow.

In that moment, I realized God was showing me a picture of what is possible when we refuse to give up.

We all face hard seasons. Life brings challenges that make quitting feel easier than pushing through. But like that plant, we can still grow in difficult places when we stay rooted.

Growth does not always look visible.

Sometimes it is happening beneath the surface.

A seed grows down before it grows up. Just because you do not see progress does not mean growth is not happening. God is building your foundation.

And we are not doing this alone.

Just like that plant had support beside it, we have Jesus. He holds us steady through pressure, storms, and uncertainty. Our strength is not in our surroundings, but in our Savior.

Job 11:18 says, “You will be secure, because there is hope.”

So do not give up. Keep growing. God is not done with you yet.

Pause: Where in your life are you facing something hard that is making you want to quit?

Plan: Choose one way to stay rooted this week: prayer, Scripture, or community. Stay consistent, even if it feels small.

Pray: God, help me keep growing even when the ground is hard. Remind me that You are working beneath the surface.

About this Plan

Snapshots: Work Within

Sometimes we spend so much time trying to change what’s around us that we overlook what God wants to do within us. This plan, based on my book Snapshots, invites you to slow down and look inward. Each devotion begins with a photo and a lesson God taught me, paired with Scripture, reflection, and simple challenges. As you go through this plan, you’ll discover that real growth starts on the inside. God is shaping your heart, your thoughts, and your perspective, and as He does, everything around you begins to change.
