Salvation in Him
The promised Saviour is coming to Zion (Israel) – the Lord proclaims it. This passage near the end of Isaiah is part of the promised restoration of God’s people. A bright future awaits Israel because the Saviour is coming and will bring reward.
The Israelites expect another king – one who will lead them so they can vanquish their foes and restore their rightful place with God. But God’s plan is not about them, it is for everyone, through Jesus.
Simeon recognises this. In Luke 2:30–33 he says, ‘For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: a light for revelation to the Gentiles and the glory of your people Israel’ (NIV).
Jesus is the Saviour for all people. That is God’s proclamation to the ends of the earth. He is the fulfilment of God’s promise.
Paul also points to this in Romans 11:26–27. God’s salvation is not about nationalism or personal pride. The salvation came at great cost through Jesus and, because of that cost, we too have the offer of salvation. There’s nothing we can do or have to do except accept the offer before us from the promised Saviour. That is our eternal reward.
