Surrounded by God

DAY 4 OF 5

His Love Surrounds Us

When we talk about God, we must remember that we are talking about the supreme Creator, infinite in power, “But will God really dwell on earth with humans? The heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain you. How much less this temple I have built!" 2 Chronicles 6:18 (NIV). This unique and marvelous God wanted to reveal Himself to every human being and has left us the Scriptures so we can see Him and know Him. With this absolute truth in mind, it is good to also be aware that we are finite, and therefore, it is impossible for us to fully know the infinite God.

Knowing this and knowing God's desire to reveal Himself to our lives and for us to know Him, we can only be amazed and marvel at God's great love. We are overcome by the truth of Christ's incarnation, to live in our space and time. “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14 (NIV). While it was difficult, even impossible, to catch a glimpse of God's majesty in the heavens, Jesus said: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?” John 14:9 (NIV)

Christ reveals the Father to us, His Holy Spirit reveals Christ to us. “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 14:26 (NIV) Since the three persons of the Trinity have made their home in us, we know we are loved and surrounded by His grace. “Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” John 14:23 (NIV)

Christ has brought us closer to God through His perfect sacrifice on the cross. We are enjoying the life He won for us. The chasm that existed between us and God no longer exists. Now we can enjoy His company, His presence in us, and the love that not only surrounds us but also fills our whole being.

God's children have the greatest blessing before us: “To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Colossians 1:27 (NIV). This contrasts greatly with the world we live in, because humanity that doesn't have Christ is empty of hope. They are surrounded by other things that, unfortunately, add to their state of spiritual misery. We were there too, do you remember? “Remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world.” Ephesians 2:12 (NIV)

How beautiful are the Apostle Paul's words to the Ephesians when he said: "But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved." Ephesians 2:4-5 (NIV)

Let's rejoice in knowing that our almighty and infinite God has surrounded us with His love and grace, giving our lives the undeserved blessing of His company.
