God Doesn't Leave Us
When things are going well, we know we are accompanied and protected by the eternal Father. We feel that we are resting, secure in His care and provision; there is no room for doubt. Everything is going as we want, and we can enjoy His peace to the fullest. "He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters." Psalm 23:2 (NIV). That's the best place to be, isn't it?
However, sometimes the sky turns gray, and the place we are in doesn't seem very comfortable. The difficult circumstances that occasionally arise start to create feelings and emotions that, in one way or another, disrupt that state of peace and confidence in which we felt so safe and rested.
If we have built our house on the rock, which is Christ, our house will not move. This is true because even when the moment we are living through is difficult, God will testify of His presence in us. A presence that doesn't come and go like bad times and good times do. A presence we know is permanent because, as His Word says, “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5 (NIV)
God knows that we don't always feel so secure and confident; He knows us. No matter how strong we feel to face adversity, our human weakness will try to take over. That's why we have to fight the good fight of faith, and that's why we need to pray and not lose heart.
Let's ignore the enemy's tricks. He wants us to lose awareness of God's presence in our lives and only focus on the problems right in front of our eyes. Let's believe God, who is more powerful than the one who is in the world, and who leads us by the hand, making us feel a divine strength that helps us move forward, sure that He is with us. "Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this." Psalm 37:5 (NIV)
Faith and trust, as well as peace, should be our companions in all our circumstances. They are gifts from God that came into our lives with our salvation in Christ. Knowing this and strengthening that knowledge through prayer and studying God's Word will help us face difficult times, assured of God's care for us.
Let's say what King David said to his soul, "Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you." Psalm 116:7 (NIV)
